Forced trades. Long-range kings.
Every capture is compulsory, so every move is a small calculation. That loop is what we design around.

What we make
CheckersOnline.games is the site behind our version of checkers. The product is a single-player board game: you take one side, the computer takes the other, and you play out a full game of American draughts on the 32 dark squares of an 8×8 board.
We are not an app-store publisher and there is no download. The game is the website. That keeps load times short, works on phones and desktops, and avoids an account wall. Your win–loss–draw record, current and best win streak, and best single-game capture count live in local browser storage on your device.
The rules, controls, and AI behaviour described in our how-to-play guide and FAQ match this exact build of the game.
Our story
CheckersOnline.games is not a content farm or a meta-game wrapped in ads. It is one board, one rule set, and a score you keep chasing against an opponent that makes you earn it.
Checkers descends from a family of diagonal capture games thousands of years old; the modern 8×8 form was fixed in Europe by the 16th century and standardised as English draughts. Its appeal has never changed: trivial to learn, deep enough that top players study it for decades.
CheckersOnline.games is an independent implementation of that standard ruleset, rebuilt for a modern browser: crisp piece animation, legal-move highlighting, a one-step undo, full keyboard play, and a search-based AI — all running client-side with no server round-trips during a game.
We build for players who want a clean, quiet game of checkers they can open anywhere and finish in a few minutes. No lobbies, no cosmetics, no funnel. Just the board, a worthy opponent, and an instant rematch.
What we stand for
Open the page and the board is set. No account wall, no download, no tutorial talking over the game — pick a colour and make your first move.
Standard American / English draughts: mandatory captures, compulsory multi-jumps, forward-only men, non-flying kings, and an automatic draw when no progress is possible.
The computer searches several moves ahead with a positional evaluation. It is not a random mover and not an unbeatable oracle — it is a consistent sparring partner.
Your record and streaks live on your device. No login gate, no "premium" board, no ads breaking up a game. The whole product is the game.
Who it is for
This is a family-friendly, single-player game with no chat and no store. It is a poor fit if you want online multiplayer or ranked play. It is a good fit if you want a genuine game of checkers you can pick up anywhere.
A game runs a few minutes. This is built for a phone on the couch or a tab between tasks, not a rated ladder.
There is no clock. Every move is yours to think through for as long as you like — the difficulty is entirely in reading the board.
Your record stays on the device you used. That is a deliberate trade: instant play, no cloud restore, no sign-up wall.
Why this site
Checkers has hundreds of clones online. This site exists to ship one honest, fast version with the real ruleset and an opponent worth beating.
Many casual clones let you skip a jump. We enforce the compulsory-capture rule that real checkers is built on, which is what makes sacrifices and combinations possible.
The opponent evaluates positions with negamax and alpha-beta pruning inside a time budget on your device. It responds to the position in front of it rather than replaying a script.
Every square is a labelled control, the board is navigable with the arrow keys, and colour is never the only signal. The pages you read here describe the exact engine you play.
How we build
The game runs entirely on the web. Fast loads; mouse, touch, and full keyboard control; and progress that stays local unless you clear your browser data. We use lightweight analytics to see what helps players — never to gate the game behind a profile. The engine on the home page is the one described on our rules pages, so search results and the live game do not drift apart.
Desktop and mobile share the same board. Click, tap, or drive the cursor with the arrow keys and Enter.
Your record, streaks, and best capture count are stored locally. You own the continuity of your history without signing up.
We watch aggregate usage through Google Analytics to improve pacing and polish. Details live in our Privacy Policy — never as a sales pitch.
